Friends will surprise you

Welcome to my blog. Having one of those days…I overslept (not like me) and got to the office to be confronted by a mountain of work (same as most). However, today I got an email from my friend Richard Merry, which turned my day around. Richard is a great guy whom I have run with in a few races; most notably the Marathon des Sables this year. What made the email stand out was the fact that he has set up a new just giving site (www.justgiving.com/richard-merry) to raise funds for the Cure parkinson’s Trust and also that this was inspired because I have Parkinson’s. Wow! What a star. He is going to run 1,000,000 metres in the next year and even attempt the Grand Union Canal Race (145 miles of fun) with me. Please take a moment to visit his site and also his blog at http://richardmerry.blogspot.com/

Last night I took a trip to London to be interiewed for the Weekley News by Jeremire Ware. This came about due to Jeremire seeing the article about my desert antics on the BBC Berkshire homepage (http://www.bbc.co.uk/berkshire/content/articles/2009/05/11/marathon_des_sables_man_feature.shtml)

This wasn’t the first time I had spoken about the MDS and neither was it the first time that I discussed Parkinson’s. The MDS was easy but speaking about how it felt to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s and the effects of that news, was tough. I  felt exhausted after but happy that I could relate my story and speak about my hopes to raise the £1 million. It was late whan Aurelie and I arrived home. Bloody arm was shaking around probably due to tiredness but that did not prevent me sleeping like a log. Sometimes, it’s good to talk….

Have to be creative over the next week and finish my website, get photos done and hopefully improve my chances of finding that elusive corporate sponsorship. Will think about that later. I have a small 10 miler to complete tonight and also solve the problem of running to work while holding a pot of cress tomorrow. You read that right…
