New horizons

Hi…apologies for the delay in putting fingers to keyboard. The last two weeks have been jam-packed with events and stuff that I really have had little or no time. So where to begin…

One highlight was a visit of my friend Mark Gillett, who came over for beer and chat. Mark is jetting between Paris and the UK and it had been some months since I last saw him. In fact, the last time I saw the guy it was in the Sahara, baking on the finish line of the MDS. Mark said that he has a chum who does documentaries and wondered if I would be interested? You bet…if it helps the cause of raising awareness of PD and £1million.

Mark put me in touch with David (who has since met Q from the Cure Parkinson’s Trust – who said that he is a excellent bloke). David is keen to do a documentary about my Parkinsons and the races etc. It’s early stages but I am hopeful. Watch this space.

On the training front, I took the opportunity to reckkie the latter part of the ridgeway 85. This 40 mile route between Goring-on-Thames and Avebury was hard but worthwhile. It took me 9 hours and 50 minutes and I got a good idea of the ground that I will cover in the dark; hopefully not breaking my ankle in the process. The sun was HOT and although I was wearing sunblock, I got burned. You should have seen my two-tone forehead…not the most sexy look. The forehead looks better now and I have taken the opportunity to be able to walk down the street without feeling a berk to do some smaller runs. For example, last weekend I ran a 20 miler Saturday and a hilly 10 miler.. Good runs and plenty of excellent weather; notwithstanding getting completely lost in the woods. It was meant to be a shorter route on the 20 mile but was a maze of bike routes through a spooky wood. Eventually, I gave up following the path and broke though a bramble bush to escape! Prickly and painful but a top run nonetheless.

Lastly, I have  new consultant who is a real breath of fresh air. This man’s way of approching Parkinson’s and its treatment is envigorating!! I had driven to Cambridge not knowing what to expect. Aurelie came with me and was hopeful but nervous of what the consultant would say. When we left the consultation…I was certainly feeling more sure about the future, my life and both Aurelie and I smiled…alot…

Life is good…and I’ll tell you about the photos next time.
