New meds, hypersexuality and a new job!!!!

Hi,

Been a bit of a while since I last wrote and alot has happened…..

I have been to see my consultant. I spent hours driving around the M25, which I firmly believe would give anyone the shakes (rage). There must be some kind of deal between the highways agency and the makers of road cones just to put them across and along the bloody M25 for miles and miles when no work or other indication that anything is being done to the motorway!!!  My theory is that they do it just as a traffic calming measure. Hmmm.

I got to Cambridge with minute to spare and then waited for ages. The consult was good. I explained that I had recently ran the Ridgeway 85 (raised eyebrows from the consultant) but had gotten this small issue of the right leg, occasionally, doing its own thing when I run. I also explained the it was pretty bad while running the Henley Half…loads of invisable boxes to step across while looking like a true plonker. I didn’t know what I was assuming but I was of the mind that my good doctor would turn around and discuss this and then would state that I could be sorted by some yoga move or something… Instead he just smiled in that way that says that he had heard this before. End result is that he changed my meds. I still take the same as before but he has added a dopamine agonist to the mix. Check out wiki if you need to know what it is but what it boils down to is that it should, in the words of the doctor, “sort me out” for the next 5-10 years! Well…before brain surgery anyways. Good news. Yup!

One of the more interesting notes provided in the leaflet that accompanied the new meds, were the words, Hypersexuality. Not a term that I would normally associate with medication…I mean you’d never see that on the side of a cough syrup bottle do you? Watch this space…hopefully Tiger Woods can keep his crown.

Plans have been made for bigger runs. Rich and I got talking. This raising £1 million may take a little longer than expected. So we need to keep momentum. Sarah at BUFF has been great. As a consequence, Rich and I have more races than you can shake your butt to (sorry effects of the meds ;)) for 2010. In addition to this we have planned to run from John O’Groats to Land End by the most indirect route (approx 1200+ miles) and to do it in less than 23 days.  Also plans were hatched for a small jaunt from LA to New York in 70 days; a run of over 3000+ miles.

The first is on and I have to say I am excited. We need to organise support crew and transport, and funding to cover bills, food and kit…so lots to do. While we were positive for this, the LA to New York run seems to have slipped (unless we can get funding)….so the back up is a little run from Marble Arch to Rome.

The funding is a tricky situation, as most companies want us to test their kit….which is fantastic but we really need funding and sponsorship to achieve the ongoing cause .If we want to make it to the £1million…we have to keep pushing the boundaries and believe me when I say, WE WILL!

X-bionic have been in touch. Patrick has propoased that both Rich and I become ambassadors for the company! This was such a surprise and we were both flattered to have such a suggestion made to us. Of course if it came up, Rich and I would gladly do our best. If you have never heard of X-bionic…check out my sponsors page. Nicky …I have to than you for the publicity push across the UK. Here’s looking forward to a positive result.

Buff….well what can I say! Sarah and the team have been terrific! They organised a web-press release via Lee at Brandamp and gave both Rich and I the first bit of promotion in the USA, which is huge. Thanks guys!!! Also check out the new clothing at:

Thanks also goes to Anthony and the team at the UK Trail Runners Association who have donated £500 towards the Cure Parkinson’s Trust! The TRA UK organise the Ridgeway 85, which I ran in August and have an interesting 260 mile round trip of London, which I want to get stuck into at some point, as well as smaller races. If running off-road and getting some milage under your belt go to www.tra-uk.org

The Doyen of the Downs was to have been my next race. A hilly 30 miles of trail run across the south downs with a good reputation. Problem was that I came down with what I can only believe to be swine flu…I have never been so ill and boy did I feel shit. Rich and Quent ran it though….Bravo lads….and completed a difficult, extremely muddy and challenging course. I wish I had been there but sense is the better part of valour sometimes and this was the time. I rested and now feel….ready to get some serious training on….as I have a 45 miler (Country to Capital) in January to do!!! Speaking of which, Steve at Go Beyond has a news letter with yours truly as the first news item! How cool is that?
